Ace of Spades, by Motörhead, might be one of the most iconic and well known songs in this list of 52. It is their trademark song and has become a classic metal anthem. Motörhead began in 1975 in the era of the British punk movement (i.e. the Sex Pistols) and might be the first band to truly harness the attitude of punk and blend that with “loud, fast, city, raucous, arrogant, paranoid, speedfreak rock ‘n’ roll”, as Lemmy pronounced. They are the forefathers of speed and thrash metal.
In March 2005, Q Magazine placed Ace of Spades at No. 27 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks, stating “This song has an intro which wouldn’t be out of place ushering in the end of the world”. In 2009, it was named the 10th greatest hard rock song of all time by VH1. In 2014, NME ranked it number 155 in their list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
Lemmy Kilmister, or just Lemmy as he’s better known, is one of the most what-you-see-is-what-you-get front men in music. He’s biker-cowboy lifestyle of chain-smoking and love for the taste of whiskey all contribute to his brash—and unique—vocal range.
This poster is an ode to Lemmy. If anyone is deserving to be as well know as Jack Daniels, it would be Lemmy Kilmister. He’s deserving of having a bottle with his name on it.
If you like to gamble, I tell you I’m your man.
You win some, lose some, it’s all the same to me.
The pleasure is to play, makes no difference what you say.
I don’t share your greed, the only card I need is
the ace of spades, the ace of spades.
Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil.
Going with the flow, it’s all a game to me.
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you.
Double up or quit, double stake or split.
The ace of spades, the ace of spades
You know I’m born to lose and gambling’s for fools.
But that’s the way I like it, baby,
I don’t wanna live for ever.
And don’t forget the joker!
Pushing up the ante, I know you got to see me.
Read ’em and weep, the dead man’s hand again.
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die.
The only thing you see, you know it’s gonna be
The ace of spades, the ace of spades.
