About This Project
36 Crazyfists, named after a Jackie Chan movie, (news to me) might have one of the more unique singers in modern metal. Vocalist Brock Lindow can belt out a growl but also bring insanely good melody and higher-pitched singing to a song. His range is all over the map, setting this band apart. They are definitely underrated in their category.
The All Night Lights, the first track off their 2008 album The Tide and its Takers, starts off fast with a killer pit-ready riff and a driving narrative of survival. The tone passes back and forth between gruff and melodic phrasing and even calms in the middle for added dynamics. Yes, this recipe isn’t new but it works for this band. Some say this album was a concept record about being astray out on the ocean—maybe that’s a lift from their cover art. Regardless, this track, like many on the album, blend emotions of helplessness and struggle balanced with hope in the long run.
I wanted to focus on the words and illustrate this song as if the viewer was running from something. They’re stranded in the middle of a forest. It’s cold and dark out, snow is on the ground and a strange beacon of light is the only thing guiding the way.
