Clutch: Mercury

About This Project

A sign of an amazing song is as soon as it’s over, wanting to immediately hear it again. Clutch has an opening track on 2004’s Blast Tyrant called Mercury that does this. At 3:02, it doesn’t have a modern verse, chorus, verse, repeat structure. It starts, builds up, hits hard and then just when you are grooving to the song, it ends. At first listen, you wonder, is this wrong? How could they end the track so soon? It’s a brilliant song with superb unorthodox writing that makes you listen more than once.
