SNAPCASE
Snapcase: Caboose

About This Project

Snapcase: a pivotal hardcore band out of Buffalo, New York that deserves to be listed in this metal motivational list. They were about as abrasive and metal as a hardcore band could be. Once this band’s sound was in my ears, it became a launching pad to discover so many other bands in this sub-genre. Bands like Earth Crisis, Madball, Shelter, and Strife among others. Similarly, they brought positive messages alongside heavy, chugged down-tuned riffs but Snapcase stood out in my book. They brought the same heaviness as many metal bands at the time but without the 1980’s/1990’s predictability of song structure. The first track on Snapcase’s Progression Through Unlearning, Caboose, was my favorite off this album—you have to read this lyrics below. It’s about self reflection and finding your true self. Be who you are. Be who you are supposed to be.

About the illustration: How can you not love the Blue Note Records and vintage jazz album illustration covers? I wanted to take a stab at making a retro jazz inspired cover as the poster style for this band. It was harder than I thought! Sometimes those simple shapes are deceiving.

LYRICS /

Do you know yourself? Do you know the others?
Can you pull the weight that rides on another’s shoulders?
Once you’ve lost yourself to the acceptance mask,
well could you find yourself? It’s not a simple task.

Self-inherence…freedom…comes from within.

Take a different track, it’s time to see what your are made of.
Can you expose yourself? Can you peel off another layer?
Will you make the time? The time to take control.
Because only you can save yourself, only you can save your soul.

Self-inherence…freedom…comes from within.

And once you save yourself, insecurities will die.
Genuine qualities and true character will shine.
Now that you belong to you what will the others think?
Soon they’ll follow you, you’ll see they’re all so weak.

Come on…can you let go? Can you be you?
